Natural baby shower

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

You want to know how to care for your child as naturally as possible. You consciously choose quality materials and want security and peace for your child and yourself.

What do you need for this?

We will advise you below. You make your choices. Perhaps you have also chosen Natural Maternity Care? This specialized maternity nurse is familiar with all products and will be happy to help you.

Newborn clothing

Did you know that your baby's skin is not yet fully developed and therefore very sensitive? The skin cells are not yet as close together, the sebaceous glands have yet to develop and the protective acid mantle is still incomplete. That is why we prefer clean fabrics, such as organic cotton or wool and silk for at least the underwear.

Keeping the body warm costs a lot of energy. Energy that they do not need to keep themselves warm, they can use to grow. That is why it is nice if you as parents can help with this. You do this preferably with woolen and wool/silk clothes.

Wool is insulating, water-repellent and can absorb a lot of moisture without feeling wet. Silk provides envelopment while not being too warm and protects against external stimuli. In addition, they are breathable materials and feel soft on the skin.

Our experience is that wool/silk clothes last a long time. Wool has a self-cleaning function. Often it is enough to air it, you can hang it outside for a (dry) night or in the bathroom. Frequent washing is certainly not necessary.

Wool clothing is more expensive to buy than cotton, for example, but because it lasts longer you save money. A sustainable investment and also nice that it can be worn by future brothers or sisters!

  • 3 (wrap) rompers with long sleeves made of wool/silk
  • 2 box suits
  • 3 long sleeve sweaters/shirts
  • 2 cardigans or sweaters
  • 2 pairs of pants or leggings
  • 2 bow hats made of wool or wool/silk
  • 1 jacket or warm vest
  • 2 pairs of wool socks

Changing and bathing

Using a woolen underlay will keep your baby warm and dry when changing with water. With disposable cotton pads and lukewarm water, changing is a pleasant experience and you can postpone the first bath. This way you maintain hygiene and peace and the natural protective layer, the vernix.

  • Changing pad made of natural material
  • Heater (special baby heat lamp for above the dresser)
  • Baby bath
  • Organic cotton pads (for cleaning baby's bottom)
  • 2 small bowls (for using the cotton pads. 1 for warm water, 1 for the used pads).
  • Natural baby oil or shea butter
  • 5 hydrophilic cloths (to dry your baby)
  • Soft hair brush
  • Wecesin dusting powder from Weleda (for drying the navel)

To sleep

Sweet dreams, my love. That is what we as parents want our child to grow well! Of course, your child does not always sleep when you want it to and your baby still has to get used to life outside the womb/on earth. You can help your child with this by using a canopy above the crib. This creates a calming environment. A nice way to slowly get your baby used to the outside world.

  • Co-sleeper or crib
  • Crib canopy made of silk (or other natural material)
  • Mattress made of natural material (coconut)
  • sheepskin
  • 2 fitted sheets
  • 2 sheets
  • 2 flannel towels (80 x 80 cm)
  • 1 wool blanket
  • 2 jars
  • 2 natural rubber pacifiers (if you want to use pacifiers)

Washable diapers

  • 20 washable diapers (lace diapers)
  • 3 overpants (made of wool)
  • Stool inserts
  • Healing wool
  • Lanolin
  • Wool detergent
  • Ox gall soap
  • Diaper pail with two laundry bags (pillowcases are also possible)

Breastfeeding

When you are going to breastfeed, you are actually the most beautiful instrument for your baby. The list below is not necessary to purchase for the baby layette (except for the nursing pads), but it can make feeding easier and more pleasant. In addition to your first concern for your baby, it is of course just as important to take good care of mom herself. As a mother, make sure you are dressed warmly so that breastfeeding can get going well.

  • 1 box of disposable nursing pads (bio)
  • 10 pairs of washable nursing pads (made of organic cotton or wool/silk)
  • Nursing pillow
  • 2 nursing bras (without underwire)
  • Outerwear and pajamas that are comfortable to nurse in
  • Warm slippers or socks
  • Weleda breastfeeding tea
  • Healing wool, lanolin ointment or shea butter (soothing for sensitive nipples and to prevent cracks)

Bottle feeding

  • 2 baby bottles (BPA-free) with natural rubber teat
  • Bottle brush
  • Organic artificial nutrition
