Lanolization

Wool naturally contains wool fat (lanolin), this is the skin fat of the sheep that is in the wool. You can soften, protect and make your clothing water-repellent with the help of lanolin. How does that work?
Before you start lanolinizing, you should always wash the wool first. Then, proceed with the steps below:
Step 1: Make a lanolin bath:
Put a layer of hot water in the bucket, add a drop of wool detergent and a scoop of pure lanolin;
stir well until the lanolin has dissolved in the water;
then top up with cold water until the water is lukewarm again (20 – 30°C). The mixture may feel quite greasy.
For convenience, it is also possible to use a wool cure instead of making a lanolin bath yourself. You only need to add wool cure to lukewarm water. Follow the label of the wool cure for the correct amount.
Step 2: Put the wool in the water. You should not rub wool clothing, but you can when lanolinizing the wool pants (diapers). If the wool pants are felted, they are even more waterproof. Make sure you put the wool pants inside out in the lanolin bath.
Step 3: Let the lanolin soak into the wool for a few minutes. Then squeeze it out and let it dry. Do not rinse the lanolin. The wool should now feel greasy, this will decrease with use.
